Together we create an extraordinary place…

Behind the museum stands a dedicated organisation of staff, board members, and volunteers, all sharing a passion for creating a vibrant and inspiring place. The museum’s staff communicate the art, develop exhibitions, and facilitate experiences with strong professional expertise and presence. The board ensures the framework that allows the museum to continue to grow and evolve. An invaluable part of the museum’s life and everyday operations is its volunteers, who contribute with enthusiasm and dedication, helping to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Together, we carry this mission with pride, curiosity, and a commitment to offering our visitors an experience beyond the ordinary in an extraordinary place.

Volunteer Hub at an Extraordinary Place

The volunteer community first became part of the Carl-Henning Pedersen & Else Alfelts Museum in 2013. The collaboration with volunteers has grown organically from individual wishes to contribute to the museum’s work in a broader sense. In this way, the volunteer effort has been a gift to the museum - an invaluable contribution driven by innovation and a shared desire to be part of an extraordinary place.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the volunteers’ efforts have become increasingly focused, intensified, and developed into a true volunteer hub, where they serve as exemplary ambassadors for both the museum and the city. They welcome visitors, proudly guide them through the collections and storage areas, and bring the art, the city, and the cultural heritage - so deeply rooted in Herning’s DNA - to life through engaging storytelling. It is not uncommon for the museum’s inbox to receive messages of praise directed specifically at the volunteers, just as visitors have even brought chocolates as a token of appreciation for their exceptional hospitality.
